Celebrating Christmas
By Mark Magill on Dec 11, 2010 | In Minute
Soon, all of America and much of the world will forgo all of that which seemed so important for the day and celebrate the arrival of God into our world. Jesus was not the representative of God, He is God. John 1:1 To attempt to understand why God would do such a thing is an exercise in futility. He did it!
Even though we have no information as to when He came, we know He did. He came to bless people and to lift the burdens that were weighing heavy on the hearts of many. He could not witness suffering and do nothing. He reached out to the weak, the disenfranchised, the sinful and even to those who were making life difficult for others.
How will you celebrate that day? Let me encourage you to resist the temptation to commercialize it. It was Emerson who said, "Rings and jewels are not gifts but apologies for gifts. The only true gift is a portion of thyself." I am not suggesting to forgo gifts, but rather put it in perspective. Go back and ask why do we have this celebration? Search for the true meaning of the day. The greatest gift you can give is to imitate the one for whom this day was set aside to honor - Jesus Christ.

Thanks for the kind words, but I don't follow Twitter mainly for lack of time.

You're quite welcome. It's sure we're not all going to agree on everything. What was that one person who said something like, "I don't like what you are saying but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" or something like that? It was a good quote, anyway...
