Bible Verses on the word,
"Purpose"
With author's commentary.
"Every purpose is established by
counsel..." (Prov. 20:18)
[Therefore, let me
take counsel with God about my
purpose in life, and my
purposes for living in him.Let me allow God
to fill me with his purpose.]
"The Lord of Hosts has sworn, saying,
Surely as I have
thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have
purposed,so shall it stand:"That I will break the Assyrian, in my
land, and upon my mountains tread him
underfoot; then shall his [the Assyrian's]
yoke depart from off them [the Israelites], and his burden depart from off
their shoulders."This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole
earth: and this is the hand [of God] that
is stretched out, and who shall turn it
back?" (Isaiah 14:24-27)
[Surely
the Lord's purpose for the enemies of my body, soul, mind, thought, and
spirit is the same: to cause burdens to be lifted off of me. His hand is
stretched out over me to save and
protect me.]
"I have purposed it, and I will also do
it." (Isaiah 46:11)
[What God intends for
me, he will do. He will keep
his promises to me! ]
"And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according
to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
[He
has a purpose for me, a plan! He isn't stymied by
what
often looks to me like failure. He just keeps on
working
out his plans. In all things, eventually it
will
turn out that I am "more than a conqueror."]
"...That the purpose of God according to
election [choice]might stand, not [because] of [human] works, but
[because]of Him that calls... "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on
whom I will have mercy, and compassion on whom I will have
compassion. So it is not of him [human] that wills, or of him
that runs, but of God." (Romans 9:11, 15-16 sel.)
[God has mercy, and
accords me his righteousness --
not
because of what I do, or who I am, but because
he
chose me to belong to him! When I heard him
calling
me, I said "Yes, Lord!" He has mercy
on
me, because he is a God of compassion and love.]
"...[God] Who hath saved us, and called
us with a holy
calling, not according to our works, but
according to his
own purpose and grace, which was given us in
Christ Jesus
before the world began;
"But is now made manifest by the appearing
of our Savior
Jesus Christ, who... hath brought life and
immortality to
light through the gospel" (II Timothy
1:9-10)
[God
has committed himself to bring meaning into
my
life. How I thank him that he has shown me The
Way,
which is himself. Thank you, Jesus, for
bringing
me life and hope. Again, not because
I've
done anything great. But because you show
me your grace.]
"The Lord has done that which he
purposed, he has
fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the
days of
old." (Lam. 2:17)
