God Can't Do It

Requests for prayer came in to the church from all parts of our country via the e-mail. These requests are for any number of reasons.  There are health problems, marital problems, family matters regarding children, jobs and a host of other concerns. One prayer concern came in recently where a parent was wanting the religious community to pray that her son be found not guilty of a crime that he was going on trial for.  Another was from a husband who was wanting God to reverse the consequences of his behavior toward his wife.  (She left him) Upon reading those messages, the first thing that came to my mind was, "you are asking God to do something He cannot do."  When someone commits a crime, you cannot ask God to reverse history, or if a husband is abusive to his wife God will not simply make those actions disappear. Imagine what kind of world we would have if there were no consequences to our behavior.  God can work in you to change you, make you kinder and compassionate.  He can change your attitude about crime and being someone who respects property and life.  But, you commit an act, don't ask God to erase the act.  Instead ask Him to change you. Come see us Sunday.
