"Illegitimate?"

Last Sunday I mentioned in my Sunday morning message that there are no illegitimate children. A relationship may be illegitimate, but there is no child that should ever wear that stigma. I have heard people speak of illegitimacy as being up a certain percentage. We need to stop using that kind of language.

Imagine my surprise when a sweet lady presented her birth certificate to me for viewing. On it was a box to be checked illegitimate. In her case the word "yes" was written. How insensitive.

The Bible has something to say to this. God said in Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you." God said He was the one responsible for making His prophet in his mother’s womb. King David wrote in Psalm 139:13, "Thou didst form my inward parts. Thou didst form me in my mother’s womb." The great poet and song writer of Israel knew well who was responsible for his being formed in his mother’s womb.

Knowing this we can say unequivocally that God does not make illegitimate children and neither does He make junk.
