Minute Message : For Better or Worse Publication Date : 10/5/96 Last week a radio talk show host called on Dick Morris' wife to leave her husband. He said the man was not fit to stay with. What Dick Morris did was detestable, disgusting, abusive and immoral. Why Mrs. Morris chooses to stay with her husband is not something I fully understand. Maybe it has to do with financial security, maybe there is a health problem we are unaware of. It could be any number of reasons that this woman has chosen to "stand by her man." However, the reason the host gave is not sufficient for her, or anyone, to leave their mate. He said she should leave because "Everyone is laughing at you." I may not understand Mrs. Morris' reluctance to leave her husband, but I admire her for her courage to stay in spite of the humiliation she has had heaped on her by this man. it may be that she is staying because of a promise she made years earlier as the two of them stood before the one who led them in making their promises to one another. It would be "for better or worse... till death do us part." I wish other couples would live up to that promise. Far too many have broken it for less reason than Mrs. Morris has for keeping it.
