Minute Message : Being Genuine Publication Date: 11/16/96 Some years ago a large company was advertising for someone to fill a vacancy in their sales force. The advertisement created 1500 applicants. The tedious job of going through each resume' was begun. All seemed to be so much alike. It was extremely difficult to separate one from another. One application caught the eye of the personnel worker. The applicant had written "I am at present selling appliances at the address below. You may judge my ability as a salesman if you will stop in and see me any time, pretending to be interested in purchasing an appliance. When you come in you can identify me by my red hair. I will have no way of identifying you. Such salesmanship as I exhibit during your visit, therefore, will be no more than usual workday approach and not a special effort to impress a prospective employer." This was not a gimmick to get a job, it was a willingness to put himself on display so that one interested could examine him in detail. People attempt to impress others by being someone they are not. Even Christians do it. What we need is for people to be genuine. I like a person like that, don't you? Will I see you tomorrow? Norman Russell 2761 Broadway North Bend, Oregon USA 97459
