A  CLOTH  OF  GOLD

The many parts of Nature are like the adornments on a weaving or tapestry.   God is richly embroidering our lives, also, with His
gifts, mercies, and graces.

NATURE'S WEAVE

Sunlight and shadow
  As I move along,
     Weave about the head
  Of Nature
    Far more beautiful fabrics
      Than any wrought
           On mannish-make loom!
Ruby flow'rets and
  Blue jay's bright sapphire wing
    Make colors
Far more lovely than from any
      Dyepots have bloomed!
Grass and leaf,
    And mole hills brown,
  Fallen log and gullied vale
    Add to the textures
      More creative
  Than yarns man-spun.

Moth with wings of red,
    Glowing fire; body black matte;
  Or ripening teasel, wheaten tone
    Mingling with greeny leaves;
      Or flash of silver-black
        Of swallows dipping
    Handsomely, on the wing.
Nature's pattern
    Shows far more life
  "In tapestry"
Than I could dream of making
  By plying threads to
    Craft imitiative design.

LIFE'S FABRIC

But there is yet another sort of
  "Fabric" more beautiful
     Than natural trove fraught
    With color's threaded wonder!

My eyes only dimly see
  Its delightsome pattern,
  And then shall only perceive
Beauty when the seeming whole cloth
    Is raveled, worked asunder.

I speak of life's gold --
The stuff of dreams and reality!
God working in silent mystery,
  On secret actuality.

The colors bright He forms
  Are gifts from God:
       Grace, mercy, and delight.
 The textures bold
   Are interlacings, His choice,
     Of sorrow, joy, gladness,
       Heartaches, and pain.
And amidst the weavings
  I shall find at last,
       My spirit's gain.

The whole cloth is my life
  And purpose -- before this
    Very God Indwelling,
Whose work I so dimly see.
    And only in heaven
        Shall my finished tapestry
In fully guided story, unfold,
          For story to behold
The exquisite skills,
The craftsmanship of God at work,
    Creating the fabric I call
        so dearly, "ME".
