BERRY "ROSE" White, perfect petals Of blossoms Shining forth from Himalaya blackberry -- The new ones, just come out, So lightly tinged with pink I may but dream Such color there! Circle of many stamens Might seem to imaginative viewers Like clust'ring, fairy wands, Airy, darkened jewels At tops, a'nod: How delicately fair! Other folks might see A tiny golden ring To crown a wee pretend-wood-maiden's hair. ~ * ~ RAMBLING ROSE Old-fashioned rambling rose, Deep burgundy, overlaced With brilliant red; Single blooms so nearly Like the pink, wild rose, Yet God made these Showily different For my eyes to see. Regal flowers open From most exquisite buds: Not tight-packed, Yet petals folded In upon themselves. Velvet tiplets devoted To unity of self. Star-shaped do the buds unfold, Sent to my glimpse today, Perhaps as a God-guided star To stir my thoughts alight! ~ * ~ BRAMBLE ROSE Another sort of bramble rose By roadside bank -- (I count two-hundred And fifty-four blossoms in area Some two foot square!) Tiny budlets, yet more double Than ordinary "wild rose." Blushing cerise encurls Like joyous gems agleam. There from center vein of leaf, Lines fan out, Delicate spikes show. And at the cleft Where branch and stem unite Are fine barbs of glory-red. ~ * ~ GOD'S INDIVIDUAL CREATIONS Three types of "roses", All nearly alike As to flowret-shape: These grace a single bank, At dusty roadside. (Dew has washed the roses With clean hope!) In some ways look-alikes, Yet each unique to sight. Three distinct species Thrilling my heart. May I risk comparison? God's people, too, are same; All loved by him As they grow nodding by The life-roadsides Of mankind. Yet are endowed differently, To be special creations. I may rejoice that I am Singly "ME"! ~ * ~ AND YET ANOTHER ROADSIDE ROSE Rambling, quaint old-fashioned, Blossoms nodding happily In summer breeze, At end of every limber cane. Stray-flower, With staying-power, Not as compact or "bushly" As other rose bushes in the lane. I pluck one lovely rose bloom, To grace A vase Of roadside flowers Which will brighten up my home. While looking at this cherish-rose, beauty-rose, My thoughts toward God shall roam. ~ * ~ WATER-SYMMETRY Sighted through close-up Binocular ring, Two seagulls Whitely bright In morning sun Are maneuvering In eerie quiet: Wings beating In one accord Like customized aircraft At an airshow, Crowd-pleasers, Stuntmen showoffs, Barnstorming In symmetry: One flying upright, The other keeping Perfect rhythm, But "belly up." Removal of binoculars Changes view: There is one bird, Skimming alone; Yet pleasure is Diminished none To know the truth: That birdly fellow Flying upside down Is only a reflection In water current which Scarcely breathes at all! Lord, in my daily walk with You, May others observe, not a separate two (Jesus first, and then, "just me"), But only Jesus' Light through me. ~ * ~ MORNING BLESSINGS All-glinting Morning sun Brings blessings To recount Along the daily way, Peace to still My appetite For longing, and Quietude to send Frustrations Dribbling away. Rambler rose Reflected in Still waters is Bright color-spot For my "today;" Happiness is this Walking-beside-water, Beauty-trusting day! ~ * ~ ONE OF GOD'S MIRACLES Aeorodynamically, the bumblebee isn't meant to fly. But this, the little creature doesn't know! It doesn't doubt at all that it can fly. And so, it just goes, and goes----- My prayer for you: Doubt not your maker's tender care, Doubt not the power of a prayer; May one of God's miracles come your way As you trust him now to bless this day. ~ * ~ ROADSIDE GOLD Queen Anne's Lace blooms white, not gold, But oh, it makes a statement bold At end of dusty August-time When other wildflowers are past their prime. White medallions of airy lace, A testimony of God's grace, Able to thrive, hot weather's gain, It blooms and wreathes a roadside lane. What Queen Anne's Lace is tucked in me, Where none but closest heart may see The glory of God's roadside gold? Let me be open statement bold: Proclaim his love and sing his song, Though life grows weary, days seem long. When August-heats challenge destiny, Yet may my lace bloom faithfully, With markings of God's own dear fold: May my life prove its Savior's gold! ~ * ~ LIFE-GOLD collection of poems copywrite (c) 1995 by Marilee Miller illustrated Web version copywrite (c) 2009 by Marilee Miller All rights reserved.
