Choices, everywhere you turn, you are called on to make choices. The super market provides you with an abundance of options. Not only are there numerous brands of the same product, but there are various sizes as well. The department store calls on you to make a decision as to what to buy. Will it be the red shirt or the blue one? Do you wish to purchase the brown shoes or black ones? Some choices are based on preference, while others are according to value. Joshua led Israel in battle against the inhabitants of Canaan. Following the defeat of the enemy, he called the people together and said “Choose today who you will serve . . .” He gave them an option, either serve the gods of their enemy or the God who delivered them from Egypt
and gave them victory over the Canaanite people. Today you and I are confronted with those same options….. Read the rest »

Encouragement – by Norm Russell
The early Christians became discouraged and were seriously considering going back into Judaism where life would be more simple and less stressful. Those Hebrew Christians needed something to help them face their difficulties and thus the letter to the Hebrews was penned. We do not know who wrote it, only that the author refers to his letter as a “word of exhortation.” Hebrews 13:22. When people are down and discouragement surfaces, they need someone to come along side them and give them a word of encouragement. They do not need to hear words that drive them deeper into the pits of despair. Read the rest »

A Young father was telling me about his children. He has a girl and a boy and they are a real treasure to him and his wife. You could hear the pride in his voice as he spoke of them. He spoke of his son as we were talking about how kids grow up so quickly. He then said, in speaking of his boy, “It is a real pleasure being his dad.”
Don’t you love that? In an era when kids who do wrong seem to get all the press, there are kids who do well and are the pride of their parents. They don’t hang out in places where things are done that are a problem. They are not involved in drugs or are promiscuous. They go to school, behave themselves and become good citizens.
If you wonder if what I am saying is true, go to a sporting event or to a presentation such as a concert or a play, and look around. There are some great kids present and there are some real proud parents. Kids will do mischievous things such as putting plastic forks in a yard or wrapping shrubs with toilet paper, but they are basically good kids and we need to defend them, stick up for them, and stand alongside of them. God has given them to us for such a short time, let us help them enjoy their years with the restraints He has given, and we too will be a proud parent.

The text message came at 2:56 A.M. “Got the rat, yeah” My daughter and her husband had been terrorized by a rat that neither they nor the exterminator could catch. The battle had been raging for a couple of weeks. Sleep was nonexistent because when they went to bed, that was when the rat would make his visit. Dogs would bark and the rat could be heard scurrying across the floor. Finally, on Monday morning it met its demise.
The fact many wish to deny the reality of Satan is confusing. All one has to do is look around and see that is a falsehood. You find broken marriages, child abuse, full prisons and immoral behavior almost everywhere you turn. The list is endless, the signs of his presence is evident just as signs and sounds of that rat was proof of his existence. They were not able to see him, but the evidence of his presence was obvious.
Our freedom from Satan’s tyranny is through Jesus Christ. Embracing Him will set you free to live life to its fullest. Come worship with us Sunday.
